Apparel export to US rises 15.44pc in Jan

Bangladesh’s apparel export to the US recorded double-digit growth in January despite a negative trend in the country’s overall garment import.

The US overall apparel import in this January declined by 3.44 percent to $7.26 billion, which was $7.52 billion in January 2022.

Meantime, China and Vietnam – the main competitors of Bangladesh – witnessed negative growth of 24.60 percent and 0.50 percent respectively in January 2023, OTEXA data showed.

Industry insiders said high demand for Bangladeshi RMG products, the significant rise in prices of raw materials – added to values of finished products, manufacturing of value-added garments, and buyers’ confidence in the local industry’s resilience and compliance helped the export to grow.
